Whitby, Oshawa and Pickering Continue to Scrap New Durham Region Hospital Site

Lakeridge Health’s quest to find a suitable site for a proposed new hospital in Durham Region moved on to Step 2 of the selection process, although the healthcare group has not confirmed the number of sites on. the list or their location.

The panel is made up of a diverse group of professionals with experience in healthcare and real estate development and is supported by an independent equity advisor, who ensures that the site selection process is transparent and impartial. by all parties involved.

Lakeridge Health announced the call for proposals process on September 21, inviting interested landowners in Durham to submit their sites for review. This came after a public consultation process involving politicians and regional and municipal employees, residents and various subject matter experts.

Whitby has a 160 acre site on land owned by the Department of Transportation ready for development. The site is centrally located in the region near highways 407 and 412 and the border with the city of Ajax and is considered the favorite.

Oshawa also has a prime site for the new healthcare center on land immediately north of Durham College / Ontario Tech University and just south of Highway 407, smack in the middle of new residential developments along from Britannia Road.

The Pickering site has not yet been identified but it is also located in the northern part of town near Highway 407.

Lakeridge Health announced the start of a site selection process in June to identify and protect the land for a proposed new hospital in Durham and subsequently launched a public consultation to give community members the opportunity to give their opinion on the process.

Almost 13,000 people responded to a public survey and the organization also offered focus groups with subject matter experts and a Facebook Live town hall.
