Viking Boys Take First Place in Division III NorCal Regional – Chico Enterprise-Record


The Pleasant Valley women’s varsity basketball team won the second seed on Sunday night in the Division III NorCal Regional Championships.

The Vikings will host No. 15 seed Evergreen Valley (21-1) from San Jose at Varley Gym beginning at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader with the boys’ team.

The winner will receive the winner from Clovis and Prieuré on Thursday evening.

Chico High also competed in the Division III Norcal Regional Playoffs. The No. 11 Panthers will be on the road to face No. 6 seed Dixon. If the Panthers are able to upset Dixon, they will face No. 3 Oakland Tech or host No. 14 Homestead on Thursday night.

Chico and PV could meet again if both teams can qualify for the regional semi-final.

Enterprise also competed in Division III NorCal Regionals. The Hornets who lost in the Northern Section final to Pleasant Valley will play in Capuchino.

In Division IV women’s action, Redding’s University Prep won the No. 1 seed and will earn a bye. Lassen High School won the No. 5 seed and will host Argonaut on Tuesday,

In Division V, Orland will host Mt. Shasta on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Trojans won the No. 5 seed. The winner of this game will receive the San Domenico-John Adams Academy winner on Thursday.

North Section Division V champion Trinity won the No. 6 seed and will host Woodland Christian. If Trinity wins. He will play the winner of Mt. Diablo-Emmanuel on Thursday

Durham High, the Division V runners-up in the North Section, will be on the road to 18-9 Bret Harte at Angels Camp. If #10 Durham (17-12) defeats Bret Harte, he will face the winner University-KIPP King.

The boys from Pleasant Valley High won the No. 1 seed in Division III. They will host high school #16 Santa Cruz at 8 p.m. after the girls’ competition. The Cardinals 20-6 won the Santa Cruz Coast League.

The 27-3 Vikings will host the winner of Menlo School-Manteca on Thursday night if they can overcome the visiting Cardinals.

In NorCal Regional Division Tier IV, North Section Division III runner-up Enterprise earned the top seed and a first-round bye and will face Mountain View-Athenian on Thursday night.

Another Eastern Athletic League school, Foothill High, also entered the regional Division IV as the No. 5 seed and will play at Lowell High in the San Francisco section.

In the bottom half of Division IV, Redding’s University Prep was the No. 1 seed and they earned a first-round bye as well. The Panthers will face the Carlmont-Venture Academy winner in Redding on Thursday.

Durham senior Brett Butler and the rest of his Trojan team-mates will get another home game on Tuesday night. Durham will host Bradshaw Christian.

In Tier V of the NorCal Regional Division, Durham High was the highest ranked men’s team in the North Section. The Division V North Section champion has been awarded the region’s No. 7 seed and will host Bradshaw Christian. The 26-4 Trojans will play against 21-5 Head-Royce (Oakland) on Thursday if they win.

Two other teams from the northern section who made the regionals will face off on Tuesday evening as Yreka host Modoc. The winner of this match will travel to face the top seed Cloverdale

The Orland boys will travel to play Denair, seeded No. 5. If the Trojans are able to win this game, they will then face the winner of Priory-Mariposa County.
Mount Shasta is also in the Division V regional bracket, and the Bears will face No. 3 seed Stuart Hall. The winner of this game will play either Priory or Mariposa County
