Smith to shut down Summer Action at US Amateur


UNIVERSITY PLACE, Washington- In her last summer action before heading to Durham later this month, Duke women’s golf rookie Andie Smith will compete in the US Women’s Amateur Aug. 8-14 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.

A field of 156 golfers will compete in 36 holes in stroke play on August 8 and 9. The field will then be cut to the top 64 players for match play. Five rounds of 18-hole match play will determine the finalists who will face off in a 36-hole championship match on August 14.

Chambers Bay will be set up for 6,541 yards and playing to a par of 37-36–73.

Smith, a native of Hobe Sound, Fla., will open the action on Monday, August 8, starting at 3:44 p.m. (ET), from hole No. 1 with Ryan Flynn and Alessandra Nagayo. On Tuesday, August 9, Smith will depart at 10:44 a.m. (ET).

Recently, Smith finished tied for fifth at the Sea Island Women’s Amateur as she hit rounds of 71, 70 and 71 for a 2-over, 212.

Fans can catch the action live on Golf Channel on August 10 (6-9pm), August 11 (7-10pm), August 12 (7-10pm), August 13 (3am-10pm). 6 p.m.) and August 14 (7 p.m.-10 p.m.). All times listed are EDT.

Duke has three golfers who have won the US Women’s Amateur. Virada Nirapathpongporn won in 2003 at Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, while Amanda Blumenherst won in 2008 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore., and Hannah O’Sullivan won in 2015 at Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore. .

August 12 (Friday): quarter-final, match play
