IJ ‘Jay’ Quinn Jr.

WILMINGTON – IJ “Jay” Quinn Jr., 58, passed away on Friday August 6, 2021 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington.

He was born on October 28, 1962 to loving parents, IJ Quinn Sr. and Frances Alderman Quinn.

Jay was very lucky to have spent almost 30 years with the love of his life, Kimberly Giddeons Quinn. Jay and Kimberly were blessed with two amazing children, Jack and Anna Carson, both 22, from Wilmington. In addition to his wife and children, Jay is survived by his special aunts, Reba S. Quinn, Faye Q. Williams, Rita S. Quinn, Irene Rivenbark and Carolyn Alderman; as well as many special cousins.

Jay was a graduate of Harrells Christian Academy and Mount Olive University. His first professional experiences were in the family business, the Quinn Wholesale Company in Warsaw, and later he became the owner of Warsaw Gifts, followed by a family involvement in Giddeon’s Body Shop in Teachey.

Jay was an active member of Boy Scouts Troop 44 in Warsaw, where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a lifelong supporter of the Duke men’s basketball program. He was very involved at Ronald McDonald House in Durham, where a room is named after his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, with a visitation immediately following the service, at Andrews Mortuary and Crematory, 1617 Market St., Wilmington.

Jay’s big heart and caring nature will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. His talents as a gardener, boating and cooking will be sorely missed. Her greatest love was for her immediate and extended family members and friends who became her family.
