DURHAM, NC – For only the sixth time in Duke fencing history, a Blue Devil has received All-America academic recognition as a rising junior Finn hossfeld has been selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as announced on Friday.
Hossfeld joins the stars of the third team Pascual di tella (2018), Dorian Cohen (2011) and Peter Truszkowski (2009), second team honored Eoin Gronningsater (2020) and three-time NCAA champion Becca district, which received the first team honors in 2012.
The award recognizes the country’s top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletic competition and in the classroom. Despite the cancellation of the spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected on the basis of career statistics.
Hossfeld enjoyed an outstanding second season for Duke as he won his first All-America honor as he finished tied for third in the NCAA Championship. The Briarcliff Manor, NY native also captured gold in the individual game of the ACC Championship and went on to spearhead the ACC Men’s Team Title. Hossfeld was named ACC Fencer of the Year for Foil and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for his success in the classroom.
