DURHAM- The Duke volleyball program has announced the addition of Danny Altamar to Blue Devil staff. Altamar will be the director of volleyball operations for the 2022 campaign.

“I can’t express how excited I am to be part of the Blue Devil family,” Altamar said. “I am incredibly grateful to the head coach Jolene Nagel, associate head coach Kellie Catanach Johnson and assistant coach Jeremy Garcia for this incredible opportunity to serve alongside them in taking this program to new heights. I also want to show my appreciation to Mitch Moser, Meghan Weiseman and Kaitlyn Purdy for trusting me to work as a key member of Duke’s athletic department. There is something special to be said about the history of Duke University that offers a strong commitment to academic and athletic achievement while creating the ultimate experience for student-athletes. I can’t wait to get to work and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our program…GO DUKE!”

Altamar came to Durham most recently from Sideout Sports in Fairfield, NJ, where he led operational and quality improvements for all programs in addition to executing day-to-day activities ranging from business strategy development to customer service. He also served as the director of volleyball operations at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, where he led game days and practice preparations. At St. Francis, he was responsible for all team travel, led all aspects of the teams’ social media campaigns, and developed successful marketing campaigns during COVID-19 to promote student-athlete accomplishments and of the incoming class.

Altamar also spent time with JBJ Events as Assistant Tournament Director and served as Volleyball Program Director at Saint Peters.

“We are delighted to have someone with Danny’s experience on our team,” the head coach said. Jolene Nagel said. “He worked directly with volleyball throughout his high school and college career and also held other jobs, which makes him a unique candidate in his role. He took over, providing excellent support to our team and staff. We look forward to benefiting from his efforts and experience this season.”

Altamar earned an MBA from the University of Miami in August 2022 and his undergraduate degree from Saint Peters.

Duke will open the 2022 season at the BYU Invitational August 26-27 in Provo, Utah.
