DURHAM – Duke dropped the series finale to No. 17 Miami, 11-3 on Sunday afternoon at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Junior Billy Seidl started on the mound for Duke, allowing six runs on two hits and four walks in 1.2 innings of work. Offesnively, junior Chad Knight led the Blue Devils, finishing 2 for 3.
The Hurricanes (21-6, 10-2 ACC) were solid from the start, jumping to a 7-0 lead in two sets. Duke (12-16, 3-9 ACC) retired one late in third as a junior Graham Pauley scored via choice of a defender by a sophomore Luke Storm.
Miami scored four more unanswered through a run in fifth and three in eighth, extending its lead to 11-1. The Blue Devils threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning, loading the bases with one out, but the Hurricanes escaped the block.
Duke picked up two more in round nine as a rookie Devin Obee hit his second career home run, an outburst of two RBIs to right field.
Senior Aaron Beasley shone in relief for Duke. A native of Durham, North Carolina, Beasley whipped up four in two innings of work and faced the minimum.
Duke returns to action on Tuesday and Wednesday as the Blue Devils host Davidson and Longwood respectively. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. for the first time at DBAP.
