DURHAM, NC – The Duke volleyball team defeated North Carolina A&T 3-0 (25-17, 25-26, 25-15) in an exhibition game Thursday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to compete tonight and learn more about ourselves as a team”, head coach Jolene nagel noted. âWe are grateful to NC A&T for visiting us so that we can all have this opportunity to compete and play in front of fans. Our team did a good job serving hard and we also took advantage of the opportunities that presented themselves. We were able to try some things, have almost everyone on the pitch and see players in multiple positions. ”
The Blue Devils were led by seniors Ade Owokoniran and junior Gracie johnson with nine and eight wins, respectively. They each recorded just two errors apiece to lead Duke to an impressive .329 hit percentage. Setter Alex springate had 29 assists to find nine hitters as a Libero Mackenzie cole picked up 16 digs on the defensive front. At net, senior Lily cooper counted two blocks to punctuate the middle blockers.
Thursday’s contest was also the start of four Blue Devils as a graduate student Taylor Cole and first year students Rylie kadel, Rachel richardson and Nikki underwood saw the action.
Duke’s first regular-season contest will take place on the road at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, starting with the Chanticleers on Friday, August 27.
