Duc 21st in the 2021-22 Directors’ Cup standings

DURHAM– Duke Athletics finished the 2021-22 campaign ranked 21st in the Learfield IMG Directors’ Cup rankings recently announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

Duke earned 849.50 points overall to finish sixth among ACC schools, marking the 20th straight year that four or more ACC schools have placed in the top 30 in the final standings. The Blue Devils have finished in the top 30 almost twice in the 28 years since the Directors’ Cup rankings were first presented in 1993-94.

Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish at the NCAA championships, and a total of 16 Duke teams have earned points, highlighted by men’s basketball (83) and women’s tennis (83) reaching each the national semi-finals of their respective national championship tournaments. Other Blue Devil scoring teams included Women’s Soccer (73), Men’s Soccer (64), Fencing (60), Women’s Swimming and Diving (50), Women’s Indoor Athletics (53.5) , men’s indoor athletics (22.5), wrestling (24.5), women’s golf (46), men’s golf (28.5), women’s lacrosse (53), rowing (42), softball (64), tennis men’s (50) and women’s outdoor athletics (52.5).

North Carolina finished sixth and was joined in the top 10 by Notre Dame, which placed eighth. Virginia (11th), Florida State (14th), NC State (17th) and Duke (21st) complete the top 25 of the ACC contingent. Virginia Tech (33rd place), Louisville (34th), Wake Forest (45th) and Miami (50th) followed to give the ACC 10 institutions in the top 50.

The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA today. Nineteen teams in total can earn points for the final standings, four of which must be baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball.
