Blue Devils welcome alumni back to Durham



DURHAM- This past weekend, Duke’s football program hosted more than 50 literate alumni for a two-day event on campus.

Former players spanning seven decades have returned to Durham to take part in an educational program on the current landscape of the program under the guidance of the first-year head coach Mike Elko.

Elko discussed his short- and long-term goals for the program, the updated technology used in the weight room, and the new Gameday tailgating experience that will debut this fall.

Additionally, details regarding the Future Initiative, a project led by former Blue Devil and All-ACC safety Terrell Smith. The initiative provides resources to better prepare Duke football student-athletes for their post-graduation journey by enriching the skills needed to succeed while at Duke and beyond. It also focuses on connecting members with decades-long former student-athletes to re-establish and strengthen engagement with Duke football and leverage their experience as a professional development resource for current student-athletes.

Offensive Coordinator Kevin Johnsdefensive coordinator Robb Smithfootball sports performance director David Feely and Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King also met the group.

The event ended with the team scrimmage on Sunday evening.
