Blue Devils Open Fall Ball Slate vs. Charlotte, South Carolina


DURHAM – Duke softball is set to kick off a busy fall schedule, starting with the first two games of Fall Ball in Charlotte, NC. The Blue Devils take on host Charlotte on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. and take on South Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 12 p.m.


After a historic 2021 season that saw the program’s first ACC tournament title and an NCAA tournament appearance, the Blue Devils will open the exhibition game this fall. The Head Coach Marissa Young is back for his fifth season at the helm of the program, after a record 44-12, the best in the program last season.

Several members of the Championship team are back, including the four All-ACC winners from a year ago. The first NFCA All-American in program history, Deja Davis, is back for his final year after hitting .389 with seven home runs, 28 RBIs, seven triples and 14 goals stolen. Voltigeur Jameson kavel is back as a graduate student, having won All-ACC first-team honors after a .320 batting average, four homers and 33 RBIs in 56 games.

The duo of pitchers decorated with graduate students Peyton Saint-Georges and senior Shelby walters are back at the helm of an experienced pitching staff. St. George was the ACC MVP, winner of the All-ACC First Team and posted an 18-8 record, with a 2.21 ERA on 158.2 innings, while striking out 199 on sockets. Walters was equally efficient, going 19-3 with a 1.28 ERA on 147.2 innings pitched, recording 87 strikeouts.


The Blue Devils add eight new team members for the 2022 season. Seven freshmen; infielder Jada Boulanger (Longwood, Fla.), Pitcher / utility player Kennedy barron (Section, Alabama), infielder Ana Gold (Ballston Spa, NY), utility actor Mariah headen (Greensboro, NC), utility actor Lea Jarnac (Safety Harbor, Florida), catcher Taylor krapf (Oviedo, Florida) and outfielder Kelsey Zampa (Hartland, Mich.) Joined the team as part of the 2021 signing class ranked fourth in the country by Supplementary Softball.

The sophomore pitcher also joins the squad Jala wright (Charlotte, NC), who is returning to her native North Carolina after her freshman year at Michigan State. Wright made 11 appearances and four starts in the circle as a rookie for the Spartans, pitching 25.0 innings and striking out 18 batters.


The Blue Devils will play a busy fall schedule that includes eight exhibition games, the Alumni’s first game and culminates with the Fall World Series in November. The roster is made up of several local opponents that the Blue Devils know well from previous seasons.
